I greatly appreciated the author's ability to provide specific examples of some Charlotte Mason techniques such as dictation and narration. I've read several of the original CM writings, and find them to be inspirational but lacking in details relevant to how my modern homeschool will look. She also explains (with specific examples!) how to replace textbooks with living books. This had always been a mystery to me as I thought surely you must need textbooks to some degree. She uses a "spine" books and gives examples of several titles and her techniques. Her positive yet realistic views on homeschooling were refreshingly true to real life. Even though my kids are too young for formal homeschooling, I've already implemented some tips and started reading a poem over breakfast to my preschoolers. They love it, and always ask for more! I am so delighted! Of note, the author isn't speaking negatively about religions. I am religious, but still found this very pertinent and helpful. Her writing is clear and concise.
